I just saw the Vespa GTS and I loovveee it!
I'm a girl and I want a scooter for many reasons (gas, drivers licensee, etc)
Will people make fun of me for riding a scooter to school?
And…
how fast does this scooter go?
I also want something under 4000$, id that possible for this kind of scooter?
THANKS
The Vespa GTS is a GREAT scooter. It has a really nice fit and finish to it. Its pretty close to the top of the line for a scooter with that engine size. You really should not worry about what other people think. You'll be smiling when you're spending 1/5 the money on gas and insurance as everyone else. Plus, they are a lot of fun to ride and are pretty quiet, you really get to take in all the sights and sounds. its very relaxing. Anyway, if that scooter is more than you want to spend… you should take a look at the Kymco People 250. These are highly regarded as well and are very very reliable.

The GTS is a 250cc. It can easily go on the hwy (just not go crazy on the hwy).
But is is kind of expensive:

If you plan on drive it to school, or anywhere else.
Someone that see's a $4,000 dollar scooter, sitting in a parking lot, may throw it in their truck, and drive away. <}:-})

You could buy a used Vespa, but I do not see many Vespas on the used market. Kids are cruel, but I can't imagine them making fun of you, if you drive a brand name as eponymous as Vespa. It's a famous, very well-made scooter. That said, it's rather expensive. Depending on the engine size, 75 mph or better, I think that is the engine in a GTS. The 250cc engine will cost more, but seems to be worth it.
Other brands of scooter are cheaper, and I'd suggest a Honda, Yamaha, or Suzuki. Or check out local motorcycle ads, for used Vespas. (The GTS is a rather new model.)
Honda Helix (no longer sold, but you may still find it on dealer floors), Suzuki Burgman 400 (new for engine for 2008), Suzuki Burgman 650, Suzuki Burgman 650 Executive, Yamaha C3, Honda Big Ruckus, Honda Silverwing?

Vespas are expensive to start off with but they last forever when taken care of. Check around the local ads and ModernVespa.com for leads of a nice used 150cc scooter. You might be able to get a 50cc vespa for under 4k but you will outgrow it and then wish for something bigger. A nice used 150 will cost about $2,500 to 3k.
